Acrylic Still Life

When I initially started working with acrylic painting, my mind turned to a sort of simplified still life. That is to say, a still life consisting of only one to three items on white. Nothing fancy, but going down the proverbial rabbit hole when it comes to detail and color. I only work with four tubes of paint; red, yellow, blue and white. From these I mix all my colors to match what I see. In that sense, I deconstruct colors I want to wind up with down to the primaries plus white.

“Poivron Rouge” is French for Red Pepper. The challenge here is getting the stem to look like it’s pointing at you.

“Pomme Volcanique” is French for Volcanic Apple. You can see how the coloring hints at lava flowing from the apple’s stem.

“Laser Blaster with Cuff Links” is a bit of joke. I’m taking a kid’s squirt gun toy, calling it something from Flash Gordon, and rendering it with some cuff links. Because, well, why not?
